Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Rahman named Central Bank Governor of the Year for Asia 2015 by Emerging Markets
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman has been declared the Central Bank Governor of the Year for Asia 2015 by the Emerging Markets Newspaper, a UK-based financial newspaper of the Euromoney Group, signifying the growing recognition and confidence in policymaking he has spearheaded at Bangladesh Bank, a member of AFI, toward mainstreaming socially and environmentally responsible inclusive green financing, supporting sustainable socioeconomic development. Governor Rahman received the award at the Annual Awards Reception on 10 October 2015 in at the 2015 World Bank-IMF Annual Meetings in Lima, Peru.
In his offer letter, Toby Fildes, the Managing Editor of Emerging Markets stated, “Your award is based on nominations from public and private sector economists, analysts, bankers, investors, and other experts. The award signals the confidence you have inspired in your key stakeholders and reflects their faith in central bank policy under your stewardship.”
Each year, Emerging Markets Newspaper recognizes the achievements of leading policymakers. Last year, Dr. Raghuram Rajan, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was awarded this prestigious accolade, while Dr. Zhou Xiaochuan, Governor of the People’s Bank of China (PBC) received the same in 2013. Both RBI and PBC are members of the AFI Network, as well.
