Cross-border payments in context of technological innovations, PPD meets in Washington D.C. on the sidelines of 2018 Spring Meetings
Fostering deeper understanding of cross-border payments and technical innovation, and striving to identify points of consensus on how to address key barriers, were main topics of the high-level Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) breakfast held in Washington, D.C. on 19 April, 2018.
Over 50 participants talked about how to tackle customer identification barriers, exchange control authorizations, licensing, as well as interoperability across providers, and channels within regional contexts.
“Cross-border digital payments is a priority issue both for AFI members and partners. Our members also encourage us to look at the region-specific policy considerations. We will thus be taking the outcomes of today’s discussion into regional contexts later this year, beginning with the AfPI Annual Meeting in Conakry, Guinea on May 10-11,” said Norbert Mumba, Deputy Executive Director of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), in his opening remarks, adding that this is a very important evolution of the AFI Public-Private Dialogue.
