Prof Florens Luoga officially assumes office as new Governor for Bank of Tanzania

Tanzania’s new central bank governor, Prof Florens Luoga, officially assumed the position on Monday, 22 January 2018 — promising to work steadfastly in addressing challenges in the banking sector.

Previously the deputy vice-chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam, Prof Luoga said his first act as the new Governor would be to meet with various central bank stakeholders within and outside the country.

Prof Luoga assumes the position of Governor following the retirement of Prof Benno Ndulu after a 10-year tenure. He was also appointed by President John Magufuli as chairman of the board of directors of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).

Having recently launched their Second National Financial Inclusion Framework for the period of 2018 – 2022, Bank of Tanzania (BoT) is an active member of the AFI network since 2 February, 2010 and participates in AFI’s capacity building programs and Working Group meetings.
