African leaders to meet in Mozambique for 5th AMPI leaders’ roundtable

AFI will gather over 80 leaders from 31 member institutions along with public and private stakeholders, for the 5th Annual Leader’s Roundtable of the African Mobile Phone Financial Services Policy Initiative (AMPI) on 11-12 May in Maputo, Mozambique.

The meeting will be co-hosted by AFI member institution, Banco de Moçambique on the theme “Driving Change for Financial Inclusion through Innovation in Africa”.

During this year’s Roundtable AMPI leaders will explore a range of issues, including: digital financial services uptake in Africa and its roles in financial inclusion for women in Africa; the role of innovative technology in addressing MSMEs access to finance in Africa; the role of financial policymakers in facilitating environmentally friendly financing; and, transforming agricultural finance through digital platforms. AFI Members will also take this opportunity to discuss how commitments made under the Maya declaration can feed into a cohesive national financial inclusion strategy.

Ahead of the AMPI Leaders’ Roundtable, AFI and Mastercard will be co-hosting a regulatory training on Digital Financial Services (DFS) on 9-10 May. This training will explore the critical role of digital financial services in reaching financial inclusion goals. The goal of the training session is to equip staff from AFI member Institutions in Africa with the ability to contribute effectively in drafting supervisory frameworks that will address emerging risks in digital financial services, with a special focus on gender.
